In the gospel of today’s Mass (John 1:35 – 42),  we hear John the Baptist point his friends towards Jesus. As they approach Jesus, we hear Jesus ask them “what are you looking for?”

Jesus also asks this question of us.

So we ask ourselves – “what are we looking for?”

If we are looking for a faithful friend who remains loyal to us always, even if we don’t remain loyal to him – we find this in Jesus.

If we are looking for companionship in those moments of loneliness when no one else seems to be there for us – we find this in Jesus.

If we are looking for guidance in times of uncertainty and confusion – we find this in Jesus.

If we are looking for peace of mind amidst the stress and anxieties of our life – we find this in Jesus.

If we are looking for courage in those times when we are afraid – we find this in Jesus.

If we are looking for perseverance in times of adversity – we find this in Jesus.

If we are looking for a moral compass so that we might grow in holiness – we find this in Jesus.

If we are looking for a model of selflessness, compassion, patience, tolerance, and forgiveness – we find this in Jesus.

If we are looking for discipline and strength as we aspire to imitate him – we find this in Jesus.

If we are looking for love – we find this in Jesus.

And, if we are looking for salvation and everlasting life – we find this in Jesus.

Jesus is just waiting to be found.  Actually he’s not just waiting, but beckoning.  He’s always there for us. So we might ask ourselves – Why look for anything else?
