In today’s gospel (Mark 10:2-16) we hear Jesus rebuke his disciples for not allowing the children to approach him.  I’d bet that Christ would also admonish us if we were to hinder anyone from coming close to him and experiencing his love, compassion, and forgiveness.  Jesus welcomes everyone and wants us to do the same.  No matter what race, creed, nationality, social status, or sexual orientation, Jesus wants us to help others approach and encounter him.  No matter how righteous or how sinful, Jesus would make no distinction and neither do we.  Jesus makes himself present for anyone who desires him.  We are here to help others – all others – seek, find, and experience our Savior. As our Pope Francis emphasizes – in God’s eyes loving inclusion trumps self-righteous judgment every moment of every day.
