Today we celebrate the Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity. We pause to contemplate the inner life of our God – a life of intimate and loving communion between the Father, Son, and Spirit, a mysterious eternal exchange of love – “the divine romance” as Archbishop Fulton Sheen called it.

The great mystery of the Trinity underscores once again what God reveals in sacred scripture – that God is love (1 John 4:8), and that God loves us so much that he invites us – all of us – to enter into that love and become one with God (John 15:10).  And to be one with God is to be one with each other – to love each other, to serve each other, to care for each other (John 13:34-35).

Today we thank God for drawing us to him, we accept God’s invitation to enter into the love of the Trinity, and we ask God to give us the grace to grow in love, communion, and solidarity with each other.

“You, O eternal Trinity, are a deep ocean into which the more I penetrate, the more I discover, and the more I discover, the more I seek you.” – Saint Catherine Sienna
