Awaiting our Lord

(This reflection is taken in part from today’s “Word Among Us” daily reflection)

Today, as we prepare to celebrate the greatest moment in the history of the world, we experience the silence of the tomb.  Jesus appears to be “sleeping in death” as if resting from his harrowing Passion. But if this is sleep at all, it is a very active one!  Tonight at the Easter Vigil and tomorrow on Easter Sunday we will proclaim that Jesus descended into hell, trampled its gates, and shattered Satan’s hold on humanity.  In fact we proclaim this every day.

So today we wait on our Lord.  We wait in eager anticipation for Jesus’ resurrection to free us and restore us to life in God.  We wait for the light of Christ to break through and shine most gloriously.

We are reminded of Milton’s words – “The Son of God, with God-like force, has endured against the attempts at His Father’s throne.  Now He has avenged supplanted Adam, and by vanquishing temptation has regained paradise lost”.

Today, we need only do one thing – to keep still and let Jesus act on our behalf.
