In today’s scripture we hear Saint Paul speak about the grace God extends to us through Christ and how that grace empowers us to live in the light of God’s love and extend that love to others (Ephesians 4:7-16).  In today’s gospel Jesus himself speaks about how our loving actions in response to God’s grace will “bear fruit” in this world (Luke 13:1-9).

And today we celebrate the memorial of Saint John Paul II.  We were blessed to have John Paul as our shepherd for so many years.  We remain blessed to have him as our intercessor before God in heaven.

Here are some profound words from John Paul which tie nicely to today’s scripture – words that I was quick to share with my own children as they broke free from the “nest” and words that I put in front of myself on a daily basis as I continue along this journey:

“Make a particular effort to seek Jesus and attain a deep personal faith which influences and directs your entire life. Above all else may your commitments and plans consist in loving Jesus with a sincere, genuine, and personal love. He should be your friend and your support along the way of life.  He alone has the words of eternal life.”
