In today’s scripture we once again hear of God’s healing mercy. We hear about Naaman’s miraculous cure from leprosy (2 Kings 5:14-17).  We also hear of the cleansing of the 10 lepers by Jesus (Luke 17:11-19).  What strikes me from these two events is that in both cases those cured are “foreigners”.  Naaman was a Syrian.  The leper who expressed thankfulness to Jesus for the merciful cure was a Samaritan.  Neither of these individuals was considered to be among those “chosen” by God, but yet they were healed.  For me, this is uplifting because it tells me that no matter how far we wander from God, no matter how much we allow ourselves to become “foreigners”, no matter how much we allow our essential nature as children of God to become clouded, no matter how alienated we might feel, God is always there for us, calling us back to him and offering us healing and forgiveness.  Such is the way of our loving God.  We can always place our hope and trust in him.  We can always count on God for forgiveness, healing, and salvation.
